Upon first hearing the gentle melody and innocent voices of the Yami children practicing "Beautiful Heart, Orchid Island," I was deeply moved. Tears welled up unconsciously, only later realizing that the lyrics conveyed, "Hand in hand, without distinction, helping each other."

I remember the elders of the Iraralay tribe telling me: "Tao means 'human.' Scholars from Taiwan define us as the Tao tribe, meaning 'human tribe.' Aren't you human?" This statement prompted me to reflect on the potential disparity between official recognition, anthropological studies, historical records, and the perceptions of those who inhabit this land.

My latest creation, "Ponso No Tao," consists of three single-channel videos. "Scenes of Lanyu" features footage captured by the Green Team in 1988, accompanied by recordings of elementary school students practicing "Beautiful Heart, Orchid Island," which I collected in 2024. "Anito Banishment" utilizes landscape footage from 2024 in Orchid Island, assembled alongside audio excerpts from the Green Team's documentary from 1987.  With nuclear waste storage on Orchid Island since 1981, visible remnants such as anti-nuclear banners raise questions for temporary outsider/stranger and tourists like us: how should we perceive or respond to this presence?

"I-va-zo-ga" depicts the simple and joyful moments of islanders at play, as observed during my time there.
